Many of the infections that school-age children are prone to are preventable through better sanitation and improved hygiene practices.
About our Project:
In Uganda’s Tororo District, access to improved water, sanitation, and hygiene resources has been a longstanding challenge. Thanks to The WASH Foundation’s comprehensive community WASH project, with your help, communities can be empowered to improve health and create brighter futures.
Why This Matters:
• In Uganda, only 42% of primary schools have water access on-site.
• Diarrheal diseases, caused by poor water and sanitation, account for 5% of deaths among children under five.
• Without clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene education, the risk of illness and missed school days increases, hindering children's ability to succeed. The WASH Foundation is committed to changing this.
This project will:
• Provide water access to 6 schools and 1 healthcare facility
• Improved sanitation facilities
• Hygiene education through WASH-in-Schools and WASH-in-Healthcare Facilities Train the Trainer Programs
• Implement a Menstrual Hygiene Management Microenterprise training for girls and women
• Directly benefit over 21,600 people

Access to water, sanitation, and hygiene is a fundamental human right and essential to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
Together, we can ensure that the families of Tororo, Uganda have the resources they need to maintain good health and improved livelihoods.
